Officially opened in 1911, WIN Stadium is the host of half of St George Illawarra’s home games, the rest being played in Sydney.
With its famous hill backing onto the Pacific Ocean, WIN Stadium is another one of Australia’s selection of stunning stadia. Originally known as Wollongong Showground, the venue’s main functions were greyhound racing, and agricultural shows.
In 1988 the venue was redeveloped into a designated rectangular stadium by the Steelers and the Showground Trust. Along with these developments, the southern stand was constructed. In 1997 WIN TV won the naming rights to the stadium and 2002 saw the new Northern Grandstand opened.
The stadium holds 20,000 fans and also hosts the home matches for Wollongong Wolves’ football team.
