Located in the Capital City, next to the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra Stadium is a perfect venue for Rugby League.
The venue was built in 1977 for an athletics meeting called the Pacific Conference Games and also played host to the 4th IAAF World Cup in athletics, during which the women's 4000 metre record was beaten by Marita Koch.
Rugby League was introduced to the stadium in 1990 when the Canberra Raiders moved in, following the removal of the athletics track. Rugby Union also moved into the venue in 1996, with ACT Brumbies making the venue their home ground. In 1997, the stadium was renovated further in order to allow football to be played for the 2000 Olympics. At this point, the Canberra Cosmos football team took residence in the stadium until they folded in 2001.
Canberra Stadium will be hosting only one game in the upcoming tournament, with Scotland taking on France on the 26th of October.
