Newcastle Knight’s home ground will host England’s game against New Zealand and is located in the industrial town of Newcastle.
Constructed in 1970 as the International Sports Centre, Newcastle Knights secured the lease to the stadium in 1986, quickly converting it from the Aussie Rule’s style oval stadium to a rectangular pitch. The stadium was partially redeveloped between 2003 and 2005, with the work focussed mainly on the Eastern grandstand, which has been named after Australian legend Andrew Johns. The developments left the stadium with a capacity of 26,126, including 18,580 seats.
The stadium’s name has changed several times, from the International Sports Centre, which it is still a part of, to Marathon Stadium, as a result of a sponsorship deal with Marathon Tyres and currently, is known as the EnergyAustralia Stadium, following the energy supplier winning the rights in 2001.
