Signed from the Gold Coast Titans in November 2007, Richie will be looking to put his injury troubles behind him once he recovers from the knee construction he recently had. Mathers spent 2007 playing in the NRL after spending 5 years at the Leeds Rhinos. He was released from his contract with the Titans and Wigan moved in quickly to secure his signature.

Mathers comes into the Wigan side as a replacement for Chris Ashton after his move to Rugby Union, also allowing Pat Richards to revert back to his preferred wing position.
