Pat signed for Wigan in 2006 and was immediately converted to the centre position by then coach Ian Millward. He reverted back to his regular wing position for the 2007 campaign, but was switched to full back after the departure of Chris Ashton to Rugby Union. Richards finished as top points scorer in 2007 after being given the duty of goal kicker at the warriors, a role he had never been asked to fill before in his career. That said he took the responsibility in his stride and is now rated highly amongst the top kickers in the league.

Pat will again be back to his more familiar position in 2008 following the close season signing of Richie Mathers to fill the full back birth. He will be looking to build a partnership with other close season signing George Carmont as he looks to continue his great points scoring form from 2007.
