Record signing Stuart Fielden had a disappointing 2007 by his own high standards, which resulted in him missing out on a place in the test series against New Zealand. Fielden signed for Wigan midway through the 2006 season, following coach Brian Noble across the Pennines from the Bradford Bulls.

After a long break over the off season, Fielden will be trying to find the kind of form that made Wigan pay £450,000 for him. An ever present in 2007, with only 2 of those appearances from the substitute bench, “Stu” will need a big year in 2008 if he wishes to be chosen in Tony Smiths England selection ahead of the World Cup in Australia.
