Johnson was originally brought into the squad to play as a centre, although an injury ravaged season made appearances a premium for the ex Wiganer. A persistent neck injury finally ended his 2007 season early.

After losing the number 4 jersey to new signing Matt King for 2008, it is believed Johnson will revert to his natural second row position, although he will have a number of players to fight against to get into the starting 13, including reigning player of the year Ben Westwood and Kiwi international, Louis Anderson. Johnson will have to jump at every chance he gets in 2008 and show he is worth the money Warrington are paying him.
