Australian born Damien Blanch started his career out as a Penrith Panthers junior, however failed to make it to NRL standard. In 2005 he joined Castleford for their promotion winning campaign. However, competition for places in 2006 meant he was often left out of their squads for Super League, and promptly joined Widnes on loan until the end of the season. He excelled at that level, and joined permanently at the end of 2006. Widnes' resultant financial problems at the end of 2007, after failing to gain promotion saw Blanch, along with his fellow players able to leave the club, and promptly signed for Wakefield.
Blanch has excellent pace, and is dangerous with the ball when large quantities of space are given to him. He is also able to out-jump opponents, which means he has the ability to score plenty of tries.
