Picking your team is really the main strategy. Remember that all players in the team are important and poor quality players will have a significant effect on the team’s performance, however this could be balanced out by having a few star players in important strategic positions.
It is up to you how you design your team.
Note that you are not obliged to use your players in their specified positions. Most players have two alternates and if a player is picked in an alternate position, his form should not be too badly affected, in fact his form may improve in the new position.
If the player is picked outside the alternate positions, his form will almost certainly suffer a significant reduction.
There are five strategies you need to choose:
Attacking strategy - your teams preferred tactics when in possession (Balanced, kicking, use
three quarters, use forwards, use dummy-half, use halves, use hooker or use fullback)
Attacking style - how many risks your team will be prepared to take when in possession
(Expansive, open, balanced, controlled or tight)
Defensive strategy - designed to counter the seven attacking strategies (Target halves, target
forwards, target three quarters, target fullback, target kicker, target dummy-half or balanced)
Defensive style - determines how "in your face" your teams defensive style will be (Aggressive,
balanced or disciplined)
Interchange strategy - controls how you use your interchange players (Conservative, balanced or
aggressive)
You also need to select your captain. The temperament of the player chosen will have a significant affect on how your team plays.
It's important that you note that the strategies will not always have the effect you are expecting.
For instance, an aggressive defence may not result in more penalties. There are a number of reasons for this:
• The strategies and/or player ratings of the other team may be nullifying your strategies
• Your own team may not be suited to the type of strategy you're choosing
• Random elements which are different in every game
The simulator is now quite complex. It can be difficult to predict, although good teams and coaches will always have the advantage.
Each week you may nominate three players to send to your physio free of charge. These players will recover a point of health in addition to any further medical treatment you choose to purchase.
If you do not specify that you wish to send a player to the physio or for further treatment his physical condition will not improve.
When sending your team orders in please use the following format:
TEAM NAME
Captain
Attacking Strategy
Attacking Style
Defensive Strategy
Defensive Style
Interchange Strategy
17 man squad (13 starting players plus 4 interchange players)
Physio
Medical Treatment
So, a set of orders should look like this:
St. Helens
Captain: No. 7 (Sean Long)
Attack Strategy: Use Wings
Attack Style: Open
Defence Strategy: Target Kicker
Defence Style: Balanced
Interchange Strategy: Conservative
1 Paul Wellens
2 Ade Gardner
3 Matt Gidley
4 Willie Talau
5 Francis Meli
6 Leon Pryce
7 Sean Long
8 Nick Fozzard
9 Keiron Cunningham
10 Jason Cayless
11 Lee Gilmour
12 Jon Wilkin
13 Paul Sculthorpe
14 James Roby
15 Mike Bennett
16 Chris Flannery
17 James Graham
Physio: Bryn Hargreaves
Medical Treatment: None
In addition to this, any form purchases should be listed in brackets after a player's name. So if
you want to improve Paul Sculthorpe's form by 7 points, it would look like this:
13 Paul Sculthorpe (+7)
When completed, send your orders to rlcoach@lasttackle.com with "RLC - Team Name Orders" as the subject.
