Warrington have strengthened their coaching team with the appointment of Nigel Wright as assistant coach.

Wright, 34, joins the Wolves from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats where he was reserves coach and assistant alongside Paul Broadbent to John Kear.

Wright commenting on his appointment:“After 12 months at Wakefield, I decided to move on to further my own career. I’m delighted James Lowes has decided to offer me the job as his number 2. This is a real chance to further my own career. Warrington is a big club and it’s the kind of challenge I need, it’s a great setup with great players.

“It’s obvious that supporters were disappointed with the end of the season, but after speaking with Jimmy, I feel very optimistic about the coming season here. When the injured players return, coupled with the signings of Higham and Carvell, it will be like a new team.”

Nigel Wright will commence his role at the start of pre-season training in November. Wright was an outstanding stand off during his playing career that was ended prematurely by injury in 2000. Wright’s career began at Wakefield before a move to Wigan in 1993; his final club was Huddersfield whom he joined in 1998.

Following his retirement Wright spent seven years in Australia where he coached at local level and with the Penrith Panthers junior sides.
