Warrington 28-36 Castleford

Warrington 28-36 Castleford
Four tries in the last 12 minutes gave Castleford Tigers a rare engage Super League win and left the future of Warrington Wolves boss Paul Cullen in doubt.

Having led 28-14 after 68 minutes the Wolves somehow lost their grip on the game and two tries from Luke Dorn along with touch downs from Michael Wainwright and Stuart Donlan gave the Tigers a 36-28 victory.

The boos sounded around the Halliwell Jones Stadium on full time, with home fans shocked and angered by the manner of the defeat staying behind after the game to demand Cullen leave.

Castleford had been the better side in the opening exchanges, opening the scoring after five minutes through Richard Owen and opening up a 10-0 lead with a Michael Shenton try converted by Joe Westerman.

The Wolves hit back after the second try, Vinnie Anderson powering his way over the score, Chris Hicks adding the two points, and Chris Riley touching down a Lee Briers kick to the corner to level matters.

The Tigers, however, re-took the lead with just two minutes before the half-time interval, good work from Westerman allowing Shenton to send Adam Fletcher over at the corner.

Warrington looked vastly improved after the restart, opening the second-half scoring and taking the lead for the first time through Riley, Hicks tagging on the two points.

With Ned Catic in the bin for persistent holding down, the Wolves really clicked into gear, Michael Monaghan sending Kevin Penny over at the corner before Briers sent Hicks over beneath the posts, Hicks converting both.

The game seemed in the bag with Warrington holding a 14-point lead, but Castleford hit back with a Michael Wainwright try at the corner which cut the deficit to 10 points.

The Wolves' advantage was cut still further when Ryan McGoldrick broke down the middle and sent Luke Dorn over and the Tigers edged ahead by two points when Stuart Donlan crossed to the sound of boos from the terraces.

A Briers 40/20 kick gave the home side field position to claim the win but a wayward Monaghan pass was intercepted by Dorn who raced 80 metres to seal the win and cap a miserable night for Warrington.
