St Helens ensured that they remain on top of the pile with a routine 0-40 win over a poor Hull KR.

Saints were missing stars Sean Long and Francis Meli due to injury however they received the perfect start when a loose ball was scooped up to eventually allow Willie Talou to go over in the corner. The KR kick off then failed to travel 10 metres and before Hull knew it, they were 0-12 down following the penalty for position and a typical Leon Pryce try.

Rovers were able to lift their shoddy defence and, to their credit, kept the score-line the same until the break.

After half-time Saints moved in for the kill, with Keiron Cunningham driving over and apparently managing to ground the ball to the disbelief of the home fans. Shortly after Wellens crossed to score, the try was given and Ste Tyrer slotted the conversion before referee Phil Bentham bizarrely disallowed the try because of an earlier obstruction to anger the Saints’ travelling fans as well.

Matt Gidley put the result beyond doubt as a result of great work from Roby and Graham before Nick Fozzard showed some superb agility to slot through the tiring Robins’ defence and allow Wellens an easy score underneath the posts.
