Wakefield secured a token top spot in Super League with their second successive win of the new season.

Having opened up their campaign with an away win at Harlequins last week, the Wildcats made it two wins from two with a 28-20 defeat of Catalans at Belle Vue.

Young winger Dale Morton grabbed a brace of tries as John Kear's side came from behind to defeat the Dragons, who were missing key playmaker and captain Thomas Bosc.

The sides went in at 10-10 after 40 minutes and they hit the front thanks to a try from Sebastien Martins. However, Glenn Morrison's score and Morton's contributions helped the home side turn the game around, and meant that Chris Walker's late try was a mere consolation for the visitors.

Catalans were dealt a blow ahead of kick-off when France international full-back Clint Greenshields pulled out injured, but Wildcats boss Kear played down his absence.

He said: "I don't care who dropped out before kick-off or who they had unavailable, the 17 players that represent Catalans Dragons are 17 good players. They are always tough, big and physical."

Wildcats newboy Paul Johnson felt the full force of the Dragons pack, leaving the field with a head injury just minutes after coming off the bench for his debut.

Catalans boss Kevin Walters said: "Wakefield are very hard to beat here and they showed their colours again.

"We have got a lot of things to work on but that is what this time of year is about."
