Wakefield Trinity Wildcats overcame a late fightback to post a 30-22 win over Salford City Reds at The Willows.

The Wildcats were the better team througout and led 30-12 going into the final ten minutes.

Two tries from Phil Leuluai, each converted by John Wilshere, cut the gap but it was too little too late.

The visitors opened the scoring when Oliver Wilkes touched down Sean Gleeson’s kick to the in-goal area, Danny Brough converting.

Dale Ferguson’s beak created the space for Gleeson to add a second for the Wildcats, Brough again adding the extras for a 12-0 advantage.

Dean McGilivray responded for the Reds; Wilshere converted that before adding a penalty to cut the gap to a mere four points.

Wakefield, however, regained the initiative when Michael Koridas sped over the line and Brough added his third to make the half-time score 18-8.

Scott Grix squeezed over for Wakefield and Dave Ferguson followed suit, Brough converting the latter to give the visitors a 28-8 advantage.

Brough added a penalty to the Wakefield total before Leuluai’s late tries gave the scoreline a more balanced look.
