Former Wigan and Great Britain full back Kris Radlinski has joined the England backroom staff ahead of next month's international against France.

Radlinski, 33, ended his career three years ago, and returned to the game earlier this year as Wigan's scholarship coach.

"Kris will bring a wealth of experience to the playing squad," said Smith. "He is an excellent role model for the players and I'm sure will be a welcome addition."

Radlinski fills the gap left by Steve McNamara, who will not travel to Paris due to his commitments with Bradford.

Smith added: "The aim of involving Kris in the squad for the French trip is for him to take a look at us and for us to take a look at him with a view to a potential role in this autumn's Four Nations.

"I'd like to thank the Wigan club for their co-operation in allowing Kris the opportunity to join the England squad for our trip to France."

Radlinski, who represented England on 10 occasions and won 20 Great Britain caps, said: "I'm really looking forward to being part of the England set-up again in what is an important year for the national side following last year's World Cup.

"In Paris I hope to be involved in some of the coaching whilst learning from Tony. I'll also be calling on my previous experience in the international side to give advice to some of the younger players in the squad."

England face up against Australia, New Zealand and France in the inaugural Four Nations Championship in the autumn.
