A late score helped Warrington secure a 18-16 win against Hull at the KC Stadium.

The Wolves outscored the home side four tries to two but only took the lead for the first time eight minutes from time, but it proved enough to secure the two points.

Former Hull forward Garreth Carvell was sinbinned early on, and the Airlie Birds took advantage. Richard Whiting and Mark Calderwood linked up on the wing, and Whiting pounced on a loose ball after Calderwood's kick on for the opening try.

Within minutes, Hull had doubled their lead when Danny Tickle sent Kirk Yeaman through a gap down the left and he passed the ball inside to Jodie Broughton to race over from 30 metres.

Tickle's two conversions meant that by the time Carvell returned to the pitch, Hull were 12-0 to the good.

A converted Simon Grix try clawed Warrington back in to the game but a mistake by Paul Rauhihi gave Hull the field position they needed, and the Wolves conceded a penalty which Tickle goaled to make the score 14-6.

Tickle slotted over a further penalty in the torrential rain at the start of the second half to give Hull a commanding 16-6 lead, but Warrington took control of the game in the final quarter.

Good work by Mickey Higham guided the Wolves up the field and Michael Monaghan shifted the ball wide to send Chris Bridge over in the corner.

And with just eight minutes to go, Lee Briers forced a goal-line drop out and from the resulting set of six, a neat grubber kick was collected by Chris Bridge who sent Vinnie Anderson over for the game winning score.
