Five Super League clubs announce 2009 squad numbers

Bradford, Hull, Hull KR, Leeds and Warrington have all announced their squad numbers for the 2009 season.
The Bulls have made a number of changes with new signing Steve Menzies given the number 11 shirt and fellow recruits, Rikki Sheriffe, Michael Worrincy and Nick Scruton getting the number 2, 16 and 17 shirts respectively.
Sam Burgess has taken over the number 8 shirt from the retired Joe Vagana, whilst Paul Sykes (3), Chris Nero (4), Semi Tadulala (5), Ben Jeffries (6) and Wayne Godwin (14) have all been handed new squad numbers.
However, Bulls coach Steve McNamara said: “"People always read things into them but there is no relevance in the numbers. It is just something that we have to do, and it is not one that I particularly like doing, but it is a necessary evil. In David Solomona’s case all he is doing is wearing the number that he had when he first came to the club last year."
Full-time youngsters Steve Crossley, Kieran Hyde, Elliott Whitehead, Tom Olbison and 16-year-olds James Donaldson and Andy Tate are also awarded numbers.
Super League champions Leeds have taken the number 9 shirt from Matt Diskin to give to new signing Danny Buderus, with fellow new recruit Greg Eastwood taking number 15.
About the number 9 shirt, Brian McClennan said: "The decision to award Danny Buderus the number nine shirt was obviously not taken lightly. Matt Diskin is an outstanding member of our team and he will thrive over the coming years alongside a player of the quality of Danny. However, over the past decade, Danny has been the best hooker in world rugby and we have decided to recognise that fact with the naming of the squad list.
"However, as always the squad numbers are more a recognition of passed achievements and come the first day of pre-season, each player will start from the same point. Our philosophy is that the players play for the name on the front of the shirt not the back of it and I am sure that will be the case," added McClennan.
New Hull recruit Michael Crocker has been given the number 13 jersey, with Mark Calderwood taking over the number 2 shirt vacated by Australian winger Matt Sing, who retired at the end of last season.
Coach Richard Agar has handed Chris Thorman the number 7 shirt, following the departure of Adam Dykes, with Peter Cusack taking over the number 10 shirt from Garreth Carvell, who has moved to Warrington.
Carvell takes on the number 16 jersey at the Wolves, with fellow new recruit Mickey Higham handed the number 14 jersey. Chris Hicks has changed to number 23 at his own request, with Paul Johnson taking the number 2 shirt.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan has handed new signings Nick Fozzard the number 8 shirt and Liam Colbon number 5.
