Catalans 46-8 Warrington
14 Sep 2008 | Alistair Webster
Catalans put any doubt about their form to bed as they took Warrington to pieces as they began their assault on the play-offs.

Justin Murphy was on top of his game as he crossed the line 4 times for the Dragons, setting up a mouth-watering tie with Wigan, following their victory over Bradford.

Murphy scored a brace of tries in each half but it was Warrington who got the scoring underway when Hicks landed a penalty.

The Wolves had been thumped 52-14 on their last visit to Perpignan but with Warrington on a four match losing run and Catalans only claiming one win in their last six games, a close match could have been expected.

Catalans ensured it was not to be however and got their scoring under way when Murphy received Bosc’s miss-out pass to cross before he was over again, stepping around Kevin Penny.

With 10 minutes remaining in the first-half, the Dragons were able to pull away as Bosc scooped up the loose ball to touch down and then he was again creator, firing the ball to Pelo in space on the left wing.

It was more of the same after the break as McGuire scored after bursting through Paul Wood’s challenge.

The Dragon’s attitude was summed up when Hick’s looked to have scored for Warrington only to have the ball knocked out of his hands by Bosc in the act of scoring.

The few Wolves’ fans that made the journey to France were given something to cheer about when Grix finally broke the French resistance as he supported Monoghan’s break to score but Catalans did not let up, adding four more tries before the end.

Murphy grabbed his hat-trick as he touched down Wilson’s kick before Mounis rounded off some effective passing.

Mogg then sent Greenshields on a 40 metre dash to the line before Murphy rounded off the scoring, finishing Wilson’s break off.

The convincing nature of the win suggests that Catalans may be peaking at the right time as they are surely now title contenders in their first ever play-off series.
