Wakefield set out looking to achieve their longest winning run in the Super League era by securing their 5th win on the spin against a tired looking Catalan Side. The French outfit had numerous players backing up from their international test against England.
It was the Home side that started the strongest, as they looked to blitz the Dragons early in the piece. Sean Gleeson was first to cross the line. Brough was on target with the conversion to give the Wildcats a 6 point lead.
A couple of minutes later Ryan Atkins made a half break down the left hand side and found Damien Blanche in support to extend the home sides advantage.
On the 22nd minute with Wakefield in full control a Danny Brough kick failed to find the turf, and a poor chase allowed Catalan’s Sébastien Raguin to burst up the field and feed Casey McGuire to duck and dodge his way over the line. Bosc converted to cut the score to 10-6.
After a Danny Brough penalty goal, Catalan hit back further, with Raguin again involved. His kick through was gathered by Khattabi to squeeze in in the corner. Bosc failed to add the two points leaving his side still behind by two points.
With the rain starting to fail, and with 20 seconds left on the clock before Half Time, Catalan conceded a further penalty to allow Danny Brough to add another 2 points. Both teams going into the sheds at half time at 14-10.
With the 2nd half literally just kicked off – Raguin, who was having a stormer, ran onto a Bosc shot ball to level the scores.
On the following set, a McGuire 40/20 gave the French the field position and clever three quarter play forced a Wakefield penalty. Bosc made no mistake kicking the 2 points, giving his side the lead for the first time in the game, 14-16.
On the 58th minute, Raguin was at it again, with another fine kick through, and Khattabi was there again, this time just getting fingertip control. Bosc added the two points.
With the Catalan on fire, Wakefield were struggling to cope with the French Flair and it was evident with the unforced errors they were making. Blaymire was unable to gather a kick through, and McGuire was there to pick up the pieces and score his 2nd try of the night. Bosc was on target again with the kick to make the scores 14-28.
A further Bosc goal just secured a fine win for the Catalan side.
