Hull FC top try scorer, centre Craig Hall, is expected to back within a fortnight after injuring his knee at the weekend.
Coach Richard Agar had feared the 20-year-old could missing for a much longer period after damaging his knee in last weekend’s game against Bradford Bulls at the Grattan Stadium.
But Agar revealed: “The good news is Craig’s injury is not as bad as we first feared and we expected to have him back in a week or two.”
The initial signs were Hall, who has scored 12 tries in all competitions this season, had knee ligament damage.
After visiting Hull’s specialist and having a scan, Agar said: “All the initial signs pointed to ligament damage but thankfully that’s not the case.
“For once we appear to have had a bit of luck because Craig has bruising on the bone and it was that which has loosened his knee and made us fear a ligament problem.
“Everything is now tightening up and is pointing to a relatively quick return for Craig.”
Full back Todd Byrne who missed the Bradford game with a knee ligament injury is expected to be sidelined for another three weeks.
Hull expect him to be available for Hull’s Carnegie Challenge Cup semi final against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, on Sunday, July 27th, but he may be fit for the Hull KR derby game at the KC Stadium the week before.
Utility player Graeme Horne will have to put his 100th appearance for the club on hold for another week because of the calf tear which ruled him out the Bulls game. Horne is expected to be fit for the visit of Catalans Dragons to the KC on Sunday week.
Hull however, will have scrum half Adam Dykes (knee) and Great Britain winger Gareth Raynor (leg) fit for the weekend.
Dykes missed the Bulls game and Raynor has been out since Hull’s Challenge Cup quarter final win at Bradford.
