Manly Sea Eagles have denied allegations that centre Jamie Lyon snubbed a call-up to the New South Wales State of Origin team for game two of the series.
Blues coach Craig Bellamy revealed that Lyon was asked to join up with the squad ahead of the record equalling 30-0 loss at Suncorp Stadium after injury looked set to rule out Mark Gasnier.
However, Bellamy claims that Lyon told New South Wales officials that he did not wish to be considered for selection and was therefore ruled out of contention for the series decider.
"With the Jamie Lyon thing, it didn't come out at the time but Jamie had the chance to come into the camp for the second one when Gasnier was under a cloud," said Bellamy.
"But he knocked that back. He told us he didn't want to play rep footy."
But Manly officials maintain that Lyon was carrying niggling injuries during Origin two and would have been unable to train for most of the camp had he joined the Blues.
It is not the first time Lyon's desire to play representative football has been called into question, the former St Helens star decided not to play for New South Wales Country earlier this year owing to family reasons.
The Sea Eagles maintain Lyon would play for NSW if selected, while team mate and close friend Brett Stewart revealed he knew nothing of Lyon's decision.
The Blues selectors have now overlooked Lyon, who has been linked with a return to Super League and a move to Warrington Wolves, for game three and handed a State of Origin debut to Canberra centre Joel Monaghan.
