Jamie Peacock has been named England captain by coach Tony Smith ahead of this month's Gillette Fusion International against France.
Peacock, who makes his return from injury for Leeds Rhinos at Harlequins on Saturday, captains the fist full England side to play since the 2000 World Cup.
The appointment was made at the England kit launch by Smith, who will name the remainder of his squad in the week ahead of the game.
"I regard this appointment as England captain as a fantastic honour and a great moment in my international career," said Peacock.
"I cannot wait to lead the side out against France in Toulouse later this month.
"I feel an incredible passion about representing my country and it is also tremendous for me to be captain as England rugby league is re-launched as a team that will play regularly in major tournaments and Test series in the future.
"I look forward to pulling on the new England shirt and I believe all England players will be giving it everything they have to win every match."
The Test match against France is played in Toulouse on June 27th and comes as part of England's 2008 World Cup preparations.
