Celtic Crusaders are rumoured to be plotting a shock move for Bradford's Iestyn Harris, if they qualify for a Super League license for the 2009 season.

The Welsh stand-off, 31, sees his contract come to an end at the end of the season, and is weighing up his future options.

Out of the 19 clubs to have applied for 14 available Super League licences, the club from South Wales, coached by John Dixon, are a good bet to obtain one with the Rugby Football League keen to expand the competition geographically.

Harris has expressed his desire to remain in rugby at the end of his playing career, and a coaching role at Odsal with Bradford is a possible option.

But it is understood that Harris has held preliminary talks with the Bridgend club, whilst a handful of Super League clubs are also keeping a close eye on Harris' situation at Odsal.

It is also believed that the Brewery Field side plan to offer the former Great Britain player a coaching position after a year of playing for the club.

The whole move hinges on the National League One outfit being granted a Super League franchise, though. The club nervously await next month's verdict.

Harris' oval ball career began 13 years ago, when he signed for Warrington, before making a record-breaking switch to Leeds in 1997.

He then made the cross-code move to rugby union in 2001, in a lucrative £2m deal with the Welsh national team and Cardiff Blues.

Harris spent three years in Welsh rugby union, before his controversial return to rugby league in the summer of 2004. He made the move to Bradford, arch rivals of former club Leeds.
