Thursday’s live SKY fixture saw a local derby at Batley as the Bulldogs lost to Dewsbury. Coming from a 4-0 half time deficit, second half tries from Bryn Powell and Austin Buchanan helped the Rams to a 13-4 win.
Salford eased to victory in the second half of Friday’s game with Sheffield, after the Eagles held the National League One favourites to a 6-6 half time score. Tries came from John Wilshere, Paul White, Richard Myler, Craig Stapleton, Philip Leuluai and Stefan Ratchford to secure a 34-10 win.
Neil Kelly’s Leigh went down to the high flying Celtic Crusaders at Hilton Park on Sunday. Three tries came from the prolific Tony Duggan along with two scores from Paul Ballard. Josh Hannay, Luke Dyer and Damian Quinn added further tries to see the Welsh win 45-22.
Whitehaven wrapped up victory in the first half against Featherstone, racing to a 30-6 lead before an eventual 32-18 success. Ade Adebisi grabbed a brace of tries while Calvert, Hill, Mcavoy and Miller added further touch downs.
Widnes lost their third game in a row at home to Halifax who keep up the pressure on Salford. Widnes have now slipped to second bottom of the table with 11 points, after starting the season on -9. Shad Royston crossed for a hat trick for the visitors while ex-Viking Miles Greenwood scored two. Richard Varkulis added another score. Ian Hardman and debutant Chris Dean both scored twice for the Vikings while Lee Patterson also crossed.
Barrow kept up their good form in National League Two on Friday, They saw off Doncaster 19-12 with tries from Finch, Backhouse and Nixon.
Saturday saw Oldham defeat London Skolars 42-20. Paul O’Connor, Mick Nanyn, Rob Roberts, Neil Roden and Simeon Hoyle all crossed while Tommy Goulden scored two.
Swinton came from 18-6 down at half time to beat Workington 33-24. Tries came from Hulse, Williamson, McGovern, Sykers and Ashall who scored twice.
League leaders Gateshead hammered out of form Keighley by 58-14 in the big game of the weekend in League Two. Clarke, Peers, Neighbour, Sanderson, Russel, Nash, Knowles and three Kain tries ensured an easy win.
Rochdale and Blackpool produced a 38 all draw at Spotland, with Dave Llewelyn crossing for four tries for the Panthers.
York prevented Hunslet from scoring a try with a 34-6 win. Lee Mapals scored three tries for the Knights, while the March brothers scored one a-piece and another was added by Matt Danville.
