Lincoln City Knights 112
Sheffield Forgers 0
Lincoln City Knights ran in a record breaking 20 tries to move up to second place with a massive 112-0 victory over Sheffield Forgers.
Four tries from hooker Jim Bardgett, braces from Meehal Grint and Dan Reeds, and a try from man of the match Graham Cass, gave Lincoln a 54-0 lead by halftime.
Cass added a further two scores in the second half to complete his hat-trick, with Matt Meanwell also grabbing three tries. A brace from Andy Donnor and further tries from captain John Turner, Chris Green, Dale Jinks and Bardgett, completed the rout.
Coach Dave Moll was delighted with the performance.
“It was a very pleasing performance, and a club record,” said Moll.
“Although we had the upper hand from early on we still completed the sets and played some impressive rugby league right to the end.
“The things we worked on in training paid off and the season has turned back in our favour.”
Man of the match Cass added:
“Credit to Sheffield for not giving up but for us it was a great display and we did quite well varying the plays,” said Cass.
“Sometimes it is difficult when scoring from the first tackle to go through the plays but we remained patient in an excellent all round team performance.”
Lincoln made the perfect start with four tries in the opening 10 minutes.
A good offload in the tackle from Paul Hamnett set up Bardgett for the first of his five tries after just one minute of play.
Bardgett went over for his second try, before Ledger popped out a pass in the tackle to put Grint in from close range. Ledger was again the provider with an excellent pass to release Reeds, who sprinted clear for a try, handing off a defender on his way to the line. Ledger converted all four attempts.
Cass showed a great sidestep before racing clear for his first try, before Jinks offloaded in the tackle to release Bardgett to run in for his hat-trick.
A great offload from Hamnett allowed Reeds to sprint clear from halfway for his second try, before Grint played a great line to latch onto Ledger’s pass to run in for a great score.
Bardgett powered over from close range for his fourth try, with Ledger converting all five scores to put Lincoln 54-0 ahead at halftime.
Clever work by Turner set up Cass to go over for a try, before the captain ran through the Forger’s defence for a score of his own. Ledger converted one out of two attempts at goal.
Ledger and Grint combined to release Chris Green out wide for a try in the corner.
Cass showed great strength to power through for his hat-trick, with Meanwell running in for two tries. Bardgett fed the dummy and sprinted clear for his fifth try, before Donnor powered through the tackle to run in for a try. Ledger converted four out of five attempts.
