Chev Walker made his rugby league debut for Leeds in 1999 aged just 16, making 183 appearances for the Rhinos in seven seasons at Headingley, and after a brief spell in rugby union with Bath, is now back in rugby league as part of Justin Morgan's Hull KR revolution.
He was in the England squad for the 2000 Rugby League World Cup and made his Great Britain debut in 2004. He was part of the Super League winning Rhinos team of 2004, as well as the 2005 World Club Challenge success over Canterbury Bulldogs. He also played in the Challenge Cup finals of 2003 and 2005.
Now back in rugby league, Chev is looking forward to the challenges presented to him at Hull KR, helping Rovers reach the play-offs and hopefully earning himself a place on the plane to Australia at the end of the season as part of Tony Smith's England World Cup squad.
He talks exclusively with Code13's James Gordon:
What made you sign for Hull KR over other clubs interested in you?Just the drive and ambition of the club and where the club are wanting to go really. I was bought on the first talks with Morgs really and I just wanted to be part of it. I’ve seen that the club are willing to spend time and their efforts on the club and developing it and they laid down where they wanted to be. This year and years to come, I want to be a part of it.
Can Hull KR reach the play-offs this year?Yeah definitely. You only have to look at the league games we’ve played this year and it’s been close, two points here and one point there. It’s weird it’s very close this year, obviously apart from Leeds who are out there on their own, but the rest of the teams are really close and I definitely think we can reach the play-offs it’s just a case of stringing some form together. The next four games are crucial for us.
