Gold Coast Titans forward Anthony Laffranchi has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2011 season.
The hardworking back-rower, who hails from Murwillumbah in the Gold Coast club’s catchment area of the Northern Rivers, has committed to the club for a further three seasons.
Jetstar Titans managing director Michael Searle said the long-term signing of 27-year-old Laffranchi was significant for the stability of the club.
The Country Origin forward joins fellow senior players Scott Prince, Luke Bailey and Mark Minichiello along with coach John Cartwright as individuals who have committed to the Jetstar Titans for 2011 or beyond.
“Anthony has done some great things over the last 12 months for this club and he’s become part of the family,’’ said Searle.
“His re-signing provides great stability for us.
“We’ve had a lot of the leaders of our squad extended out for 2011 or beyond and that includes our coach as well.’’
Laffranchi, who is a chance to be selected to make his debut for the NSW State of Origin side when teams are announced tomorrow, said he was excited to secure his future with the Jetstar Titans.
“It’s a privilege,’’ he said.
“I’m very excited about what’s happened at the club so far and the future of it.
“I think the club is moving in the right direction and I’m more than happy to be a part of it.’’
Laffranchi said the knowledge that Cartwright and several key players had committed to the club long-term was a major factor in his decision to re-sign with the Jetstar Titans.
“Carty is here for a long time and the experienced players are here so I think we’ve got a good nucleus,’’ said Laffranchi.
“He has worked well will me this year and I’ve learnt a lot under him. With Princey, Bails and Mini on board as well I think we’ve got a good crop of senior players here.
Cartwright declared Laffranchi one of the best back-rowers in the NRL and said his re-signing was a huge statement for the Jetstar Titans.
“He was 18th man for the Australian team last week and you’d have to think he’d make the Origin side so it’s really important long-term for us to have him here,’’ he said.
“We’ve got one of the best back-rowers of the game at the peak of his career.
“It’s a huge statement that he wants to be part of the club.
“He’s a well respected member of the playing squad and his re-signing gives us a lot of stability.’’
