It was good once again to see student rugby league being given a chance on national television, with Sky covering the annual Varsity Match between rival universities, Oxford and Cambridge.
Over 600 people travelled to the Twickenham Stoop on Thursday March 6 to watch the ‘Dark Blues’ of Oxford take the plaudits with a 38-10 victory. I’m glad so many people turned out to watch the game, as it is vital for the good of the game that we maintain an interest in the sport at the academic level. But the significance of the victory was overruled by an argument between fans over the importance of the biggest all-student fixture in the academic calendar.
