If you’ve not already heard, there is a World Cup taking place in 2008, and over the winter, the final three spots were filled.
Ireland grabbed the first remaining spot by virtue of a better points difference after a 16-16 draw with Lebanon. Scotland’s narrow 18-16 loss to Wales meant that they still went through on aggregate, with Wales and Lebanon joining Samoa and USA in the repechage stages.
Lebanon picked up the surprise result of the qualification campaign by defeating Wales 50-26, and ended the Dragons dreams of reaching the tournament in which they were semi finalists last time out in 2000. In the same round, Samoa saw off USA by 42 points to 10.
