Brisbane Broncos loose forward Tonie Carroll has expressed a wish to bring the curtain down on his career by representing New Zealand at the 2008 World Cup.
Carroll's career so far has been a fine example of the quirks of representative rugby league; he has represented Australia seven times, played for the Kiwis at the 2000 World Cup and featured in eighteen State of Origin matches.
The former Queensland representative had recently announced his retirement from the representative arena and plans to call time on his career at the end of the coming season. However, it is being reported that he has told a New Zealand television station that he is keen to play for the Kiwis one last time.
"I've always said I'm a Kiwi," said Carroll in the television interview.
"I love being a Kiwi.
"The Kiwi blood is tough and that's what rugby league is about, it's toughness."
Carroll's intentions are sure to cause a stir within the game and in particular with the RLIF.
