Barrow Raiders fielded an experimental line up in their 44-4 win over a Barrow and District ARL XIII, a game played in memory of Chris Massey who was tragically killed in an accident in November.
Massey played for both the Raiders and Barrow Island, and the club held both a minute’s silence and a bucket collection which raised £1,000 for a charity of his family’s choosing.
The game was played in four quarters with the Raiders making to changes to positions and players at each interval in preparation for their upcoming friendly with Warrington Wolves.
The amateur players – wearing the shorts and socks of their club sides – gave a credible performance but were no match for the Co-operative National League Two side.
Barrow scored ten tries with two from Nicky Beach, others from Lee Norman, Lee Haney, Brett McDermott, Chris Larkin, Jamie Marshall, Darren Holt, Brad Nichols and Michael Knowles.
Glen Kaighan of Massey’s former club Barrow Island was the solitary try-scorer who ensured the Barrow and District side would not be nilled.
