Transfer Gossip 15

Transfer Gossip 15

The final touches are being applied to all the squads as pre-season training begins in earnest. The latest gossip from the rumour mill is below.

Joel Clinton, Brisbane to Hull KR
Hull KR's Ben Galea believes the capture of Joel Clinton would be the final piece in Rovers' jigsaw for the forthcoming season. Rovers are favourites to land the highly-sought after prop after he agreed a release from his contract at Brisbane Broncos, where he was their highest paid forward on £152,000 a year. Clinton, who had another year to run on his deal, is expected to join Rovers as soon as he secures his visa. (Source: Hull Daily Mail)

Paul King, Hull to Wakefield
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have emerged as the favourites to sign the Hull prop Paul King. King has spent the last 11 seasons with the Black and Whites and, although he is under contract at the KC Stadium for next season, it is believed that he is not part of Richard Agar's plans for 2010. Wakefield are looking for a prop to replace James Stosic, who was released by the Wildcats because of passport problems. Wildcats coach John Kear confirmed: "I am seriously considering making a move for Paul. We have spoken to his agent and made it clear we do not want to pay a transfer fee. (Source: Sport.co.uk)

Tommy Lee, Hull to Crusaders
Tommy Lee Lee has joined Crusaders on a one-year deal. The 21-year-old was released by Hull FC in the close-season and was originally linked with a move to Salford City Reds. Instead, he has teamed up with former Black and Whites' assistant coach Jon Sharp at the Super League strugglers. Lee's agent David Howes said: "The move will give Tommy an opportunity to reinvent his game. Obviously he can play hooker. He was a well-rated half-back, at both stand-off and scrum-half, and enjoyed himself at loose forward when he came off the bench last season." (Source: Hull Daily Mail)

Brian McDermott, Harlequins to England
The Harlequins coach, Brian McDermott, has become the first man to express interest in leading England to the 2013 World Cup. "I would love the England job," McDermott told the BBC. "Why would I not want to coach my country? That is your goal in life." The former Bradford and Great Britain prop has bucked the recent trend after two of the initial favourites for the position left vacant by Tony Smith's resignation following the Gillette Four Nations series, Mike Ford and John Kear, last week stressed that they are happy in their current roles, and Smith's former assistant Steve McNamara sat on the fence. The Rugby Football League revealed today that it has received "around half a dozen" expressions of interest. (Source: The Guardian)
