Transfer Gossip 9

Transfer Gossip 9

September 1st has passed, and the first flood of moves have been announced. But what others are in the pipeline?

Scott Grix, Wakefield to Huddersfield
Huddersfield Giants are playing down reports they are on the verge of a second signing from Super League rivals Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. After confirming a one-year contract for 34-year-old hooker Brad Drew last week, the Galpharm club have been linked with a possible deal for 25-year-old utility back Scott Grix. However, Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said that he was not aware of any deal in the offing for Halifax-born Grix, who skippered Ireland in the 2008 World Cup finals. Paul Jackson, Huddersfield to Castleford
Huddersfield Giants forward Paul Jackson may also be on the verge of making a move – leaving to rejoin Castleford Tigers. The 30-year-old Scottish international prop and ex-Wakefield man has made more than 100 appearances in his second spell at Huddersfield since signing from the Wheldon Road club in 2005. John Duffy, Widnes to Leigh
Widnes hooker or half-back John Duffy is still being linked with Leigh Centurions, despite their relegation to Championship 1. Duffy played for Leigh in Super League in 2005 and is out of contract at the Stobart Stadium. Leigh, however, have a lot of sums to add up following their relegation - with Ian Millward, Robbie Paul and Ricky Bibey among the high profile names already signed up for next year.

Jason Chan, Catalans to Salford
Catalans forward Jason Chan could be on the way to the Willows to fill the void left by Craig Stapleton. After denying that Australian prop Ray Cashmere was set to leave the club, head coach Shaun McRae said: "The story also linked us with Jason Chan. He is a player on a list of players that we have been given, which shows the out of contract European-based players that will be available to sign from the start of September. But I could probably give you 50 names of players coming out of contract. If Jason would like to speak to us about joining Salford, we would be happy to speak to him." (Source: Salford Advertiser)

Matt James is to head south and join Harlequins Rugby League from the Bradford Bulls. The Welsh international prop or second-row forward arrives in the capital on a one year deal. He replaces Scotsman Daniel Heckenberg who has not had his deal renewed at the Stoop.

Brad Fittler is to replace the departing Brian Noble at the Wigan Warriors. Fittler who coached the Sydney Roosters to the wooden spoon in the NRL has agreed the deal after being told he would not be part of the Roosters coaching setup for 2010.

With talks at the DW Stadium never materialising for Noble he has agreed a deal in principle to become the Head Coach of the Welsh franchise Celtic Crusaders. It is believed that John Dixon will remain at the club in some capacity, possibly as director of rugby.
