September 1st is the date where clubs are officially allowed to approach players who are out of contract at the end of the season. Although most clubs seem to have a gentleman's agreement in place to allow talks before this date, announcements are often kept until this date. However, the system is due to be reviewed at the end of the year, with the deadline set to be scrapped for 2010.

Richie Myler, Salford to Warrington
Rugby league's worst kept secret is to become public knowledge this week, as Wolves chief Simon Moran promised to follow up the weekend's Challenge Cup final triumph with news about their re-building for the future. Myler is to be joined by Wakefield's Ryan Atkins, amongst others, as Tony Smith reshapes his squad for 2010.

Tommy Lee, Hull to Salford
Salford have begun planning for life without Myler with the signing of Tommy Lee from Hull. Half-back or hooker Lee has featured in every game for Hull this season, but was suspended at the weekend for a breach of club discipline. He is expected to be shown the door at the KC Stadium, with The Willows his likely destination.
