Transfer Gossip

Transfer Gossip

Now we've entered July, players and clubs kick on with their preparation for next season and inevitably this leads to rumours and gossip about player movements.

We've already seen a few moves announced - especially from the NRL - but our weekly gossip column will hopefully keep you up to date with what's being rumoured in the rugby league world.

Jamie Rooney - Wakefield to Hull
According to the Daily Express, Wakefield's former Featherstone half-back Jamie Rooney will be moving to the KC Stadium for next season. Rooney is currently on loan at Championship side Barrow. Hull are in the market for a half-back to play alongside Sean Long next season after being disappointed with Chris Thorman's form this season.

Terry Newton - Bradford to Wakefield

Terry Newton is to leave Bradford and join Super League rivals Wakefield. The hooker, who has started every Bulls game this season, will sign a two-year deal from next season. Newton, 30, joined Bradford from home-town club Wigan four years ago, after starting his career at Leeds. (Source: The Sun)

Sam Burgess - Bradford to NRL
Bradford forward Sam Burgess is being chased by several NRL clubs including Manly and Wests. Manly recruitment manager Noel Cleal told Rugby League Week magazine: "We have spoken to Sam and he has made no secret of the fact that he wants to come and play down here. He is a talented young player and probably the pick of the next generation of stars over there. He can play prop or second row and has plenty of size."

Matt Orford - Manly to Wigan/Warrington
Orford is back in the frame for a Super League move after being told to take a pay cut at Australian champions Manly. Scrum-half and playmaker Orford, 31, who tormented Leeds in the World Club Challenge in March, does not want to leave the Sea Eagles and is having a new house built in the area. But he may now be persuaded to join Wigan or possibly Warrington. (Source: Daily Express)

Kyle Amor - Whitehaven to Leeds
The exciting young forward has burst on to the scene in Cumbria this season and he could be set to move to the Super League champions as part of a link up between the two clubs. Amor has also been linked with Huddersfield, who signed team mate Gregg McNally at the end of last season and then loaned him back to Haven for the 2009 season.

I hope Matt Orford does go to Warrington Wolves then at least Rihard Myler can be left alone to get on with his job at the Willows.
