The older brother of Australian stand off Kurt, Matt Gidley was brought in as a direct replacement for Jamie Lyon. Gidley signed from Australian club Newcastle after making 221 appearances for the Knights and as of 2007, is only the 5th Knights player to appear in over 200 games for the club.
The Centre from Newcastle in New South Wales has been capped 11 times for Australia and a further 11 times in the state of origin for NSW. Jamie Lyon has stated that his style was a copy of Gidley's which no doubt led to the signing of Gidley in time for the 2007 season.
