Former Sydney prop Cayless signed a 4 year contract with Saints when he arrived in 2006. The younger brother of Parramatta prop Nathan Cayless, Jason played alongside his sibling at the Eels before making a move to the Roosters and then to Knowsley Road where he is considered one of the best front rowers in the world.

Although he was born in Sydney, Cayless chose to represent New Zealand at international level and currently has 14 caps for the Kiwi's. He has 3 NRL grand final appearances under his belt, one of which he won with Sydney in 2002. His honours in European Super League include a grand final winners medal, 2 Challenge Cup winners medals and a World Club Challenge Winners medal. Cayless will have to wait until at least May for his first appearance of the season after suffering an injury during the close season
